Car Thief Goes Viral Thanks to Technology

BELTON, Mo. — A thief in Missouri chose the wrong car to steal.

Thanks to cameras in the vehicle, the crime was all caught on video.

And now the suspect’s face is all over social media.

“Technology is improving and this is a perfect example of that,” Lt. Dan Davis of Belton Police said. “GPS allowed us to track the car. Had that thief still been it, she’d already be in custody and I wouldn’t even need to make this post.”

The 2016 Hyundai was stolen in Belton Monday night and thanks to all that technology, police quickly recovered the car and now have video evidence of the crime.

The thief even turns on the inside light — giving a clear view of her face.

Lt. Davis posted the video on social media and hopes it’s a warning to potential thieves, but also to the rest of us. The owners made it too easy by leaving the car running unattended.
