DOOLITTLE, Mo –  A group of soldiers and a bus driver safe after their bus caught fire on I-44 Wednesday night.

The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District was dispatched to a reported bus fire on eastbound I-44. According to the DRFPD, before fire crews got there the driver was able to pull the bus over and knock the fire down with a fire extinguisher.

The bus was full of soldiers on their way to the airport in St. Louis to go home for Christmas.

Rescue Pumper 6614 had to deploy a hose line in order to extinguish the remaining fire.

According to the DRFPD’s Facebook page, the night before, a bus similar to this used to transport soldiers to the airport completely burned up on I-44 near Marshfield.
