Branson City Government Jobs Up for Grabs

News

BRANSON, Mo. — There’s been a lot of talks about a workforce shortage in Branson. Well, if you’re looking for a job in city government, Branson is looking for you.

City administrators say they hope to fill a variety of positions.

“They’re all different positions – ranging from utilities, to the police department, to public works to parks and rec.”

Branson Communications Manager Melody Pettit says the city has something for everyone, full or part- time.

“We’re looking for qualified individuals to apply.”

But, while the city is hiring — many business owners in Branson say they’re having a difficult time finding workers to fill positions because of a workforce shortage. However, Larry Lovig, Business Services Representative for the Missouri Career Center has a different take on that shortage.

” I think the shortage is kind of nationwide. I don’t think it’s specific to this particular area. I believe that if a person wants to have a job, they already have it. So, it’s making it a little more difficult for employers to find candidates. But, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a shortage per se.”

On the flip side of that, when people say they can’t find a job, Lovig says they should come and see him.

“There are a lot of jobs out there. A lot of employers are looking to hire.”

For some people, these job opportunities could not have come at a better time. Bob Sloan just relocated to Branson from Iowa. He says after a few personal setbacks, he’s ready to start over.

“I’ve been in finance for quite a few years, about 20 years. But I want something just all new… I think the service here is wonderful.”

Lovig says that while he doesn’t really know if employers offering higher wages is the answer to attracting more workers, he does believe it’s something that should be looked into closely.
