Boy Scouts Dispose of Nearly 200 Flags

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Local Boy Scouts properly disposed of nearly 200 American and state flags Saturday.

The ceremony of burning the flag is laid out in U.S. Code.

In part, any flag no longer fit for display should be destroyed in a dignified manner by burning.

American Legion Post 69 collects worn and distressed flags throughout the year and then stores them until they have enough for a burning ceremony.

Scouts who participated Saturday received a merit badge and a letter of appreciation.
