Hello Movie Maniacs!  A new take on The Bodyguard is out this weekend in theaters – and a blonde Daniel Craig in a comedy of errors hit theaters this weekend.  Here’s a look!

New at the box this weekend:
THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD (LIONSGATE) – The world’s top bodyguard gets a new client, a hit man who must testify at the International Court of Justice. They must put their differences aside and work together to make it to the trial on time.  The awesomely talented Ryan Reynolds AND Samuel L. Jackson star.  There is a variation of the movie poster showing Reynolds carrying Jackson and it’s a spoof of the 1992 poster from the film THE BODYGUARD where Kevin Costner is carrying Whitney Houston.

And, LOGAN LUCKY (BLEEKER STREET MEDIA) – The very talented director, Steven Soderbergh bring us the story of two brothers attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina.  Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig and a slew of others star.  Yes, that IS 007 himself with bleach blonde hair!  Many of the these stars have worked together or with Soderbergh.

A film with a bit of a wild premise, BRIGSBY BEAR (SONY) – Brigsby Bear Adventures is a children’s TV show produced for an audience of one: a young man named James.  When the show abruptly ends, James’s life changes forever, and he sets out to finish the story himself.  This tale stars Greg Kinnerar, who continues to choose such interesting roles, Kyle Mooney, and several other SNL stars and alums.

Tops at the box office last weekend:
ANNABELLE:  CREATION scared it’s way to the TOP.  And, debuting at number 9 is THE GLASS CASTLE.  This is the film starring Oscar winner Brie Larson, as Jeannette Walls, a journalist/author raised by nomadic and unconventional parents.  This is an intriguing story with FANTASTIC performances!

New on Blu-Ray this week:
ALIEN: COVENANT (20TH CENTURY FOX) – The crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discovers an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.  Ridley Scott directs and this is the second following 2012’s PROMETHEUS in the new ALIEN trilogy leading up to the original ALEN from 1979.

Locally:
Slated for The Moxie is STEP (FOX SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES) – This CRITICS CHOICE SEAL OF APPROVAL film documents the senior year of a girls’ high-school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore.  Tons more info at  moxiecinema.com!
