SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s plan to donate 50,000 rods and reels to nonprofit organizations nationwide in an effort to get kids outside during the summer.

The donation will kick off Gone Fishing, the nationwide movement that gets kids and families connected to nature during summer months, in hopes that kids from all backgrounds will connect with the outdoors.

Gone Fishing will include family-friendly events like catch-and-release ponds and kids of all ages can take home a “First Fish” certificate and beginner’s guides, participate in free seminars, free crafts and free photo downloads.

These events will take place over two weekends, June 9-10 and June 16-17 at the local Bass Pro Shops in Springfield.
