Bass Pro and Cabela’s Hold ‘Gone Fishing’ Event, Hope Kids will Drop the Phones

News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield-born Bass Pro is taking steps to get more families in the great outdoors.

This weekend kicked off an effort to get people to put down their phones and computers and get outside to discover the joys of fishing.

Bass Pro and Cabela’s will donate 50-thousand rods and reels to non-profit groups for kids nationwide.

The nationwide event called “Gone Fishing” features back to back weekends of free family activities.  In Springfield, people were invited to try their luck and a catch and release pond at the S. Campbell store.

“The whole outlook on what we’re trying to do this weekend is to take a kid fishing,” Bass Pro Fishing Manager Steve Firestine said. “There’s no more rewarding experience than taking a kid out and getting them in the great outdoors and catching their first fish.  with this catch and release pond, it’s amazing how many kids have never fished before.”

The event will continue at Bass Pro and Cabela’s stores again next weekend.
