Barnum’s Animal Crackers Characters Obtain Freedom

EAST HANOVER, N.J. — After more than a century locked up, Barnum’s Animal Crackers are no longer behind bars.

The box for the classic Nabisco snack has been redesigned.

Instead of caged on a boxcar, the beloved animals are now shown outside, roaming among grass and trees.

The advocacy group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is claiming some credit for the move.

PETA says the new design is the result of discussions it had with Nabisco’s parent company Mondelez International.
