AVA, Mo. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is releasing information on a man who drowned Tuesday night during flash flooding near Hunter Creek.
Robbie Turner, 59, was camping in a conservation camping area known as Vera Cruz when the flash flooding occurred.
People had warned Turner of the storms coming through the area, but he decided to camp there for the night.
Sheriff’s deputies were notified by Turner’s family that he had been camping there. When deputies arrived at the camping area at about 8:30 Wednesday morning flood waters were still too high to do any searching.
When deputies came back to the area around noon on Wednesday they found Turner’s body about 200 yards downstream from the camping area.
