ARKANSAS – Casinos around Arkansas opened their doors today just five months after voters approved an amendment to allow them in the state.

Live table games debuted today at Oaklawn Casino in Hot Springs.

The shift to full casino operations kicked off at noon. City leaders gathered this afternoon to begin the new era.

Right now there are six blackjack tables and two craps tables.

This has been a long time coming for Oaklawn, and the president of Oaklawn says it can be beneficial to the city and the region.

“And it’s just a remarkable history, and it’s a great new chapter for Oaklawn,” Louis Cella, President of Oaklawn said. “And what Hot Springs is doing with the Parks, and the bike trails and the walking trails and we have the lakes and now they have another opportunity with casino gambling.”
