SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Tennessee authorities took a 13-year-old from Arkansas into custody this week after he allegedly took his grandmother’s car to visit his girlfriend.
Police pulled over a truck on a routine traffic stop Thursday morning, but when officers got to the car they were amazed to find a teen instead of an adult.
The boy’s grandmother called police after he stole her purse and vehicle.
Deputies used OnStar to track him down and found out he had already traveled nearly 200 miles without a crash, scratch or problem.
“Didn`t pull any kind of fight. Apparently, he lives with his grandparents and was upset with them and took off,” said Earle Farrell of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. He then added, “I was fearful of my kids driving during driver’s education. This kid is only 13.”
Police say the teen was taken to juvenile court.
It’s unclear when he’ll head back to Arkansas.
