INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A dog breed debate in Independence, Missouri has left a show dog in the shelter and its owner hiring an attorney.

Bella, an American Bully, escaped from the yard where animal control picked her up.

According to a city ordinance, a Pit Bull impounded by animal control or an animal with characteristics of a Pit Bull must be spayed or neutered before it’s released to its owner.

While there are striking similarities to an American Bully and a Pit Bull, Jamie Bray insists her dog isn’t a Pit Bull.
“If they spayed Bella she will be disqualified from any competitions and she won`t be able to be a national show dog anymore or able to be bred and her bloodline will end,” Bray said.

Bray says if she has to file a lawsuit against the city, she will.
