49-year-old breaks world record by climbing Mount Everest 24 times

HIMALAYAS — A veteran climber has become the first person to successfully climb Mount Everest 24 times.

Kami Rita is a Nepalese Sherpa who works as a guide helping mountaineers face the iconic mountain, which is more than 29,000 feet high.

On Tuesday, the 49-year-old reached the summit with a team of police from India.

He first scaled Everest just over 25 years ago.

And believe it or not, Tuesday’s achievement marked his second summit in just one week.

He rested only three days before launching his world-record breaking climb on May 18.
