WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Four women have bonded out after being jailed last week on a manslaughter charge when a child died after being left inside a daycare van on a hot day.

Ascent Children’s Health Services workers Felicia Phillips, 42 (driver); Pamela Robinson, 43 (adult rider); Wanda Taylor, 43 (transportation supervisor); and Kendra Washington, 40 (van safety director), are charged in the death of 5-year-old Christopher Gardner, Jr.

On Monday morning, their bonds were set at $20,000 each.

Police said the boy was found dead in a booster seat, eight hours after the van arrived at the daycare on June 12. The outdoor temperature was 90 degrees when police arrived and they said the temperature inside the van was measured at 141 degrees.

West Memphis Police Chief Donald Oakes said four people could have stopped the child’s death had they done their jobs and checked on the van.

Ascent Children’s Health Services CEO Dan Sullivan said last week that some employees didn’t follow correct protocol and were fired.
