SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ozarks First is keeping track of crime in the city of Springfield, and what we learn from police about each incident throughout 2022. This story will be updated regularly as staff follows up with police about these crimes.
January 28, 2022
Springfield Police were called to a domestic disturbance at 1004 East McDaniel. When officers arrived, they confirmed a woman and her children were inside the apartment, along with a man who was armed with a gun, according to police.
The officers forced themselves into the apartment and an interaction resulted in an officer shooting the suspect. Officers performed life-saving measures on the suspect but he later died of his injuries. The woman and her children were not hurt, nor were any officers injured during this incident.
January 30, 2022
Greene County prosecutors have charged a Nixa man, Jasmin Hopkins, with first-degree manslaughter. Police say Jeffrey Brent was assaulted at Rumors Cabaret on January 30, 2022, and died from his injuries on February 20. Investigators say they identified Hopkins as a suspect and officers arrested him on March 21, 2022.
January 31, 2022
Two men were found dead with gunshot wounds at the National Cemetery on East Seminole on January 31. Springfield Police identify the men as 38-year-old Mark D Young and 46-year-old Justin S. Baker. Both were from Springfield, and police have notified both men’s families.
According to a news release, the Springfield Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident. Detectives have determined that the men knew each other and had been living together.
February 11, 2022
Springfield police investigated after four people were hurt in a drive-by shooting.
According to Springfield Police Lieutenant Nelson Kibby, at about 4:00 p.m. two vehicles were heading westbound and one vehicle began firing on the other while driving. Springfield Police Department said four victims in total were transported to the hospital. All victims expected to survive their injuries.
February 13, 2022
Springfield police investigated a homicide that happened at an apartment complex.
Around 10:30 p.m. on February 13, police were called to a shooting at Cherry Creek Apartments. When police arrived they discovered a deceased male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The man has been identified as Spencer Anderson, 34, of Springfield. No suspects were identified.
February 14, 2022
Springfield Police investigated after someone was shot in the leg by a stray bullet while they slept in a house near Frisco and Division on the evening of February 14, 2022.
Witnesses reported seeing three suspects leaving the scene. Police were able to find an abandoned vehicle related to the shooting at Calhoun and Washington. No one has been arrested. The person who was shot was expected to survive.
March 8, 2022
A Springfield woman was charged after Springfield Police say a child in her care died. Deborah Lundstrom was operating an in-home daycare when police say, she left nine children alone. One of the children, an eight-month-old who was left in a car seat, died.
Lundstrom is charged with 1st-degree involuntary manslaughter, 1st-degree endangerment the Welfare of a Child – Death of a Child, eight counts of 1st Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating a Substantial Risk and Operating a Child Care Facility Without a License
March 20, 2022
Two people drove themselves to the hospital after being shot in the parking lot of a nightclub on South Scenic Avenue early in the morning. The people who were shot are expected to survive. Police said the shooter and victims likely knew each other and that the public was not in danger. No arrests have been made.

Two women, Brittany Barnes and her wife Ceairah Beverly are facing three counts each of felony Interference with Custody. Ryder Green, 10, Resean Green, 9, and Ramello Green, 8, were taken by the women, according to Springfield Police, and are believed to be in Arizona.
March 25, 2022
One person died in a shooting in the 2400 block of East Commercial Street. Police identified the victim as Johnny Hipol. Another man was shot in the same incident, but survived, police say. James Lee Young, Jr. was charged with second-degree murder and burglary.
March 31, 2022
One man was arrested after a Kum & Go clerk contacted police about a man acting erratically. Upon contact, the man assaulted the responding officers. He was arrested and nobody was seriously injured.
April 6, 2022
The body of a Springfield-area man who was reported missing on March 22 was discovered on Farm Road 167, in what authorities suspected was a homicide. The Greene County Sheriff’s office said Jessica McCammon was charged with murder in the death of Dan Myers.
April 23, 2022
Sammie Wright is charged with two counts of Second-Degree Kidnapping and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Springfield Police officers arrested Wright at the Battlefield Inn on April 23 after a man and woman claimed they held them in a hotel room at gunpoint. Wright told officers he believed the couple stole his belongings.
April 25, 2022
Greene County Deputies arrested Cory Schafer on Monday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. after a three-and-a-half-hour standoff on West Hovey Street in Springfield, near Grant Avenue and Division Street. Deputies say Schafer, who had a warrant for his arrest, barricaded himself in a home. The warrant was issued because Schafer is accused of escaping from custody.

Springfield Police said a drive-by shooting that happened in the area of West Avenue and Madison Street is the reason more than a dozen officers were at the Hell’s Angels Clubhouse in Springfield on Monday, May 2.
April 30, 2022
Springfield Police said on April 30, a man threatened a woman at knifepoint and stole her car. Surveillance video from the convenience store where it happened helped police determine a suspect. Michael Free was arrested in Iowa and was charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and tampering with a motor vehicle.
May 14, 2022
Two people were killed and one was hurt in a shooting at Boonville Avenue and Olive Street in downtown Springfield just before 2:00 a.m. on May 14. Witnesses told police a suspect ran away from the scene and headed west.
May 28, 2022
After being called to Glenview Avenue, which is just off South Ingram Mill Road on May 28, Springfield officers found 42-year-old Ava Hodgkins injured with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital and died there. Police say investigators have identified her husband, Jacob Hodgkins as a suspect and a warrant for second-degree murder has been issued for his arrest.

According to the Springfield Police Department, 17-year-old Sebastian Wormington was shot in the chest in the 2600 block of North Grant in the early morning hours. Another juvenile male was injured. There is currently no suspect in custody.
June 12, 2022
Two women were killed in a crash in the early morning hours of June 12 at Chestnut Expressway and West Bypass. Police said the man who was driving the truck that hit the women showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DWI. Battlefield Police confirmed the man who was arrested shot and killed himself the next day. Formal charges were not filed.
June 22, 2022
Springfield Police said Lydell Jackson killed Cheryl Lamar and then hid in a mobile home. After an hours-long standoff, officers found Jackson had shot and killed himself. The investigation began when police received a request to check on Lamar after Jackson had made threats to hurt her.
July 6, 2022
One person was shot and killed in a shooting outside a gun and tactical store in Springfield. Police were called to Anchor Tactical Supply on South Campbell and found a victim with a gunshot wound. Colin Loderhose later died at the hospital. Zachary Cano was charged with first-degree murder and Jonathan Peace was charged with stealing. Both were wanted for previous gun thefts.
July 24, 2022
Springfield Police responded to a shots fired call in the early morning hours of July 24 but did not find a victim or suspect at Walnut Street and Scenic Avenue. A few hours later, a woman sought treatment for a gunshot sound at a hospital in Springfield. Her injuries were not life-threatening. No arrests have been made.
July 30, 2022
Police were called to a gas station on South Scenic avenue early in the morning to respond to a shooting. They did not find victims there but found two people who had been shot at a location on West Chestnut Expressway. One of those victims was 18-year-old Jaiden Falls died from his injuries.
August 28, 2022
One person was shot in downtown Springfield near Campbell and College during the early morning hours of Aug. 28. Springfield police said the person’s injuries were not life-threatening. No one has been arrested.
September 2, 2022
Springfield Police responded to a parking lot at Campbell Avenue and Cherokee Street to check a report of a person with a weapon. Police said Joshua Michael had a shotgun and would not comply with the officer’s demands. An officer fired their duty weapon, hitting Michael. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
September 16, 2022
A call about shots fired led Springfield Police to find a man dead in a car on N. Lyon Avenue. Police later identified the suspect as Robert Parmely and called him a potential threat. Parmley was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
September 23, 2022
Springfield Police said a man was driving near Glenstone and Division when his back windshield shattered and he felt he’d been shot in the head. He drove himself to the hospital, and police said he was expected to survive.
October 3, 2022
A man was shot on the afternoon of Monday, October 3 in a parking lot on the northeast side of the Kansas Expressway and Battlefield Road intersection. Police said the suspect in the shooting is a juvenile who they have taken into custody.
October 5, 2022
Springfield Police were called to South Nettleton Avenue, near Kansas Expressway and Mount Vernon Street on the afternoon of October 5 about a man who had been shot. Police said officers identified the shooter but did not make an arrest because they believe the shooting was an accident.
October 9, 2022
A woman was shot on South Glenn Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. Police said there was a disturbance before the shooting, but the woman who was shot was not a part of that incident. The victim was badly hurt but is expected to survive. As of 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 10, a suspect has not been arrested.

Springfield Police Department officers responded to shots fired call on the evening of Oct. 12 near Nichols Park and found one person with life-threatening injuries.
November 1, 2022
Just before noon on Nov. 1, Springfield Police were called to a home near Lone Pine Avenue and Commercial Street because a man was hurt badly and was bleeding. Thursday, police identified the man as Timothy J. Williamson and ruled his death a homicide.

Springfield Police are investigating a murder-suicide after a man attacked two men, one of whom died, and then killed himself. One of the men who showed up at the hospital after being attacked with a hammer died from his injuries. Police have identified that man as Phillip Campbell. When police went to the scene of the attack, they found the body of Vincent Odom, who investigators say attacked Campbell and the other man before killing himself.

According to Greene County Sheriff’s Department, a domestic disturbance turned into a domestic assault at home north of Springfield, off of N Farm Road 143. Deputies said a juvenile who lives there shot someone who was responsible for a domestic disturbance.
