Elisa Raffa

Hello everyone!  Elisa Raffa here, your KOLR10 Daybreak Meteorologist!  I'm thrilled to be in Missouri, privileged to be a part of your morning routine and wake-up call with the forecast each day!

I'm no stranger to crazy Midwest weather. I come to the Ozarks from our sister station, KCAU 9 in Sioux City, Iowa. There, I covered everything from damaging severe thunderstorms with baseball size hail, to ice storms and blizzards. My most memorable weather event was the Groundhog's Day blizzard in 2016, when I worked alongside the renowned Jim Cantore from The Weather Channel. The storm was so impactful, The Weather Channel sent Jim Cantore to Sioux City to cover the raging blizzard. It was a dream come true for me to learn from such a well-known and talented meteorologist out in the field, I gained him as a friend and mentor that day!

Being a broadcast meteorologist is a dream I've been chasing for over a decade. At just 12 years old, I was in awe of the power and destruction of Hurricane Katrina. I was heartbroken at the images of the flooded streets, destroyed homes, and overwhelming poverty that struck the effected areas, particularly New Orleans. I wanted to become a broadcast meteorologist to save help save lives with better forecasting and public communication.

My passion for weather led me to Cornell University, the only Ivy League institution with a program in Atmospheric Science, as well as the Alma Mater of my childhood idol: WABC New York's Chief Meteorologist Lee Goldberg. In May 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science, and a double minor in Spanish and Communications. Outside of the classroom, I got to work in many TV stations and met many mentors along the way. I interned the ABC affiliate Newschannel 9 in Syracuse, NY; and at the CNN World Headquarters in Atlanta, GA, working with both the domestic and international weather teams. I was twice blessed with the opportunity to shadow in Times Square at ABC's Good Morning America with the inspiring Ginger Zee and, with fellow Cornellian, Rob Marciano.

I was born and raised in New York City, with my family currently residing in Staten Island, or the "forgotten borough" of New York's fabulous five. Raised in an Italian household with a Brooklyn edge, pizza, calzones, rice balls, and lasagna are some of my many treats when I head back home to the Big Apple. Yankee games were always a part of my summer plans growing up, and still are when I head home for visits! So, if you see me at a Springfield Cardinals game with a Yankee jersey on, don't be surprised!

I'm very active on social media and enjoy hearing from you. Please don't hesitate to send weather pictures, questions, or just say 'Good morning!'! I'd love to hear from you!
