CNN — In the ongoing legal battle between families of victims who died in the sunken duck boat accident on Table Rock last summer and the companies who operated the amphibious vehicle.

Cnn reports Ripley Entertainment is invoking a law from 1851 to avoid responsibility in the accident.

Federal court documents show the company asked a federal court today to consolidate civil actions against them and to rule they have little or no liability.

Ripley says it plans on making settlements to families and survivors.

CNN reached out to Tia Coleman, who lost nine family members in the accident, who said the filing is hurtful and insensitive.

Coleman’s lawyer says there have been no settlement offers and predicts the judge will dismiss today’s request.
