July looks set to close out on the cool side as an unusually deep trough across the Eastern U.S. keeps the pleasant pattern locked in place.  The trough will be with us the rest of the week, but does show signs of lifting out a bit by early next week.  This will allow more summer like heat to move back into the Ozarks.  Wet weather will be tough to come by, but there will be some opportunity for rain over the next two days, especially to the south.

A series of weak disturbances will move through the western ridge and then through the eastern trough.  Clouds and rain will break out across the mid section of the country with waves of rain streaking east southeast from Kansas through Arkansas.  Much of our area is situated within a pretty dry air mass.  This will likely keep much of the area dry north of a Joplin to Yellville line.  Areas to the south should see a few periods of rain from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning.  Areas further north will likely just see sprinkles or nothing at all.  Highs will range from rain cooled highs in the low to mid 70s across Northwest Arkansas to low 80s northeast of Springfield.

Dry weather should return Friday and last through early next week.  This isn't good news for some areas that have gone weeks without rain.  This is especially true from Springfield north and east.  Summer heat will try to slip back in, but not the humidity.  This will make for pleasantly cool nights.  Highs will warm into the mid 80s this weekend and upper 80s early next week, but 90s will be tough to come by.  The pattern heading into August looks pretty similar to the one we've seen much of July.  A semi permanent trough in the Eastern U.S.  will keep the Ozarks on the dry side and also keep temperatures in check.
