Rain for some today.  We saw an area of rain and thunderstorms move out of Southeast Kansas and Northwest Oklahoma this afternoon, spreading east across Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas.  It had a tendency to diminish the further east it got with just some very light rain in Springfield.  Rainfall was more substantial further south and southwest with Harrison picking up over a half an inch of rain.

This latest round of rain is over with a quiet night ahead.  Patchy fog will likely develop in areas.  Another complex of rain and thunderstorms is expected to push east across Kansas tonight.  The storm complex will be weakening when it arrives, but some showers look possible into Western Missouri by sunrise.  These showers will tend to fade away as they shift east southeast during the morning, but some sun will likely push temperatures into the mid to upper 80s, setting the stage for some redevelopment during the afternoon.  Scattered showers and thunderstorms look possible across all of the area during the afternoon with a tendency for the rain to be shifting southeast out of the area by evening.  Additional showers and isolated thunderstorms look possible Sunday night into Monday morning before drier air begins to work in behind the front.

The drier air mass will set the stage for a comfortable, quiet week ahead.  Monday night through Thursday looks mostly clear with pleasantly cool nights and comfortable warm days.  Lows in the 50s are expected Wednesday morning.  Summer heat and humidity will begin creeping back into the area by next weekend.  A slight chance for rain will arrive as well.

Looking ahead, the pattern appears to be changing to one more typical of August.  This week's northwesterly flow aloft will be replaced with more of a west to southwest flow as a ridge expands across the southern and southeastern part of the U.S.  This should lead to a more prolonged period of seasonably hot and humid weather.
