LAMPE, Mo. -- Strong thunderstorms that fired up across southwest Missouri late Wednesday night dropped hail the size of half dollars and damaged docks on Table Rock Lake.
They also knocked out power to several communities.
The Stone County Emergency Management office reports two boat docks were damaged at Campbell Point boat dock on Table Rock Lake near Lampe. Several other docks broke loose and are floating in the lake. Several house boats are also floating free, with one of them taking on water, the report said.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Pace tells KOLR10 News it appeared one dock was lifted up by high winds and slammed on top of the other. 15 boats were also damaged.
Dock owners told KOLR10 News the marina was not damaged and is still open.
The Corp. of Engineers checked the corp campground in the area to make sure all the campers were safe. There were no reports of damage at the campground and no injuries reported.
Damage is also reported in Shell Knob area, where power lines were knocked down and a tree fell on a roof. Hail also broke out several windows and damaged shutters, according to reports from the public made to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Springfield says reports of hail from 1.75 to .75 inches in diameter were reported in several counties overnight.
The storms rolled through Springfield after 10:00 pm, causing power outages in a number of neighborhoods. By 4am, the power had been restored to nearly all City Utilities customers, according to online data from the utility.
About 1,700 customers of Empire District Electric Company in Republic were still without power at 4:30am, another 80 customers were affected in the Aurora/Marionville area, and a few dozen were still without power in the Joplin/Carthage area. See outage map
Ozark Electric Cooperate is also reporting a number of communities affected by power outages, but exact numbers were not available on the co-op's website.
Law enforcement officers in Lawrence County reported half dollar sized hail near County Road 2175 and Highway 39.
Just before 3:00 am, hail 1.75 inches in diameter was reported about 6 miles north of Shell Knob in Barry County.
