SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Red Flag Warning for far southeastern Kansas and much of southwestern central Missouri -- in effect from 10 am this morning to 6 pm  this evening.

Affected counties in Missouri include Benton, Morgan, Miller, Vernon, St. Clair, Hickory, Camden, Pulaski, Barton, Cedar, Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Jasper, Dade, Greene, Webster, Wright, Newton, Lawrence.

Winds will be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Timing of these conditions: late Friday morning through the afternoon with relative humidity as low as 17 percent and temperatures in the 50's to near 60.

Any outdoor burning will be extremely difficult to contain and control. Natural cover fires will spread quickly with these conditions.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now...Or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...Low relative humidity...And warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
