BRANSON, Mo. – A Branson woman had almost $240,000 sitting in her car for more than three months without realizing it.

According to the Missouri Lottery, Laurie Engler-Brokate, 58, of Branson, has a habit of purchasing Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash tickets and stashing them in her vehicle.

Luckily, she decided to check a stack of tickets before they expired. One of those tickets ended up being worth $238,000.

“I had a stack of tickets,” says Engler-Brokate. “I finally checked them all on Friday (Nov. 22). I couldn’t believe it.”

The first-time Lottery winner bought her Show Me Cash ticket on Aug. 7 at Cottage Market, 1575 Tablerock Circle in Branson.

Using the Quick Pick option, she matched up all five numbers: 11, 14, 22, 28, and 32.

“It’s a blessing,” says Engler-Brokate. “I’m going to be very cautious and put it into savings.”

Engler-Brokate says the experience taught her a good lesson.

“I’m not going to wait so long to check my tickets next time,” she says. “I might have another big one riding along with me.

Show Me Cash, a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins, started in 2008.

Tickets expire 180 days after a drawing has occurred.

Engler-Brokate is the game’s 268th jackpot winner. In the past 12 months, 57 jackpot prizes have been awarded, with the average jackpot size of more than $190,000.
