Winter Storm Warning Now Issued for Parts of NW Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark -- Several counties in northwest Arkansas are now under a Winter Storm Warning for freezing rain, sleet and snow.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark  -- Several counties in northwest Arkansas are now under a Winter Storm Warning for freezing rain, sleet and snow.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 6am Thursday to 6pm Friday for these counties: Benton-Carroll-Washington

Winter Storm Warning from 9am Thursday to noon Friday
Baxter-Boone-Fulton-Izard-Johnson-Marion-Newton-Pope-Searcy-Sharp-Stone-Van Buren-


This warning replaces the earlier Winter Storm Watch.

 Accumulating freezing rain...sleet...and snow is  expected between Thursday morning and Friday morning.

Timing...Rain will transition to freezing rain in northwest Arkansas around or shortly after daybreak Thursday. By Thursday afternoon, much of northern Arkansas will be experiencing a mix of freezing rain and sleet. Thursday night and into Friday morning, precipitation is expected to become snow or a mix of snow and sleet. All precipitation transitions will begin in the northwest and spread south and east with time.

Areas impacted:  West of Mountain Home and north of Jasper and Clinton...Ice accumulations approaching one quarter to one half  an inch will be possible Thursday morning before precipitation largely becomes a mix of sleet and snow Thursday evening. At  that point...an additional 3 to 4 inches of sleet and snow accumulations will be possible through Friday morning.
Elsewhere  in the warned area...ice accumulations will be similar...but with less sleet and snow accumulations...henerally less than 3  inches.
