SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A well known actor made a stop in Springfield Sunday.

Missouri State University awarded John Goodman with an honorary doctorate degree.

You may recognize Goodman for his work in the show Roseanne and movies like "The Big Lebowski" and "Argo."

The award was given to Goodman during the new student convocation.

"There are so many cool restaurants and bars down here," Goodman told the crowd.  "And we just hung around like we were in high school, just cruising around.  We cruised Glenstone and hung around downtown.  It's just great to see so many people down there hanging out and they're so lively.  And Springfield has gotten so big.  It's great to come back and discover it again."

The convocation was held at JQH Arena.

MSU students officially start heading back to their classes Monday.
