WEBSTER COUNTY, Mo. – The identity of a person who was trapped in a house fire and died Sunday afternoon near Diggins has been released.

Bessie Terrell, 76, died in the fire about 4:30 p.m., according to Mike Tiff, deputy chief of the Southern Webster County Fire Protection District. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, he said.

The house on fire in the 4700 block of south State Highway NN, just south of Diggins, was fully engulfed when crews arrived.

A second person in the home was able to escape with burns to the lower half of the body.

The flames were so intense they also caused some oxygen tanks inside the home to explode, injuring firefighters.

Three firefighters were transported to Cox hospital due to injuries from the explosion to the house. They were treated and released, Tiff said.

Crews from Southern Webster, Seymour and Rogersville fought the flames. The cause of the fire is undetermined, Tiff said.
