UPDATE: Man Shot Near Junior High School, Suspect Flees

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- One man was shot and the alleged attacker fled from the scene of the shooting today in the 800 block of South Jefferson, according to police.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- One man was shot and the alleged attacker fled from the scene of the shooting today in the 800 block of South Jefferson, according to police.

The injured man, who was taken to the hospital with a single gunshot wound, was reportedly hit in main hallway of an apartment house that was converted from a large single dwelling.

The apartment house is across Jefferson from Jarrett Junior High School. School officials said no lockdown was instituted at the school located about a block north of Grand Street.

About half a dozen police cars and officers responded to the scene, as well as medical first responders.

Police said at the scene that the injured man’s condition was not known. A search for the shooter was ongoing and the shooting is under investigation.
