SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A man has been shot in an alley near the intersections of Woodland St. and Campbell Ave. in Springfield, according to the Springfield Police Department.

According to Laura Kennedy, our reporter on the scene, a 911 call was issued for gun shots at South Campbell.

The victim, a 35-year-old whose name has not been released, was shot in the chest.  CPR was performed on the victim and he was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

When police arrived, they found the victim in the alley on the 200 block of West Edgewood.

Shell casings were found at the scene and witnesses claim more than one round was fired.

Lt. Robert Pitts says this was not a random shooting and that the area is normally a safe place.
