SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The man wanted in a weekend hit and run incident that critically injured another man turned himself in today, and is now free on bond.

Staff at the Greene County jail confirm William Lee Smith, 22 of Ash Grove, turned himself in  around 8 a.m. today.

Smith is charged with first degree assault.  He made an initial court appearance this morning on charges of first degree assault, and was released on bond, with conditions that he not contact any of the witnesses to the weekend incident, and that he not drive.

According to court documents, Smith and his wife, Cheyenne, fought at their Ash Grove home Saturday. Cheyenne left and met with friends at Kansas Avenue and Atlantic.

Police say when William arrived at the scene, he deliberately struck Jeremy Strahle, 33 of Springfield, with his car.

Strahle was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
