SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A suspect is in custody after a standoff Monday night with Springfield Police.  During a chase with the suspect prior, officers reported a sound similar to a gunshot.  However, police now say they were unable to locate a firearm at the scene of the incident.

According to a newly released update from the Springfield Police Department, police were led to 3670 S. Cottage, just outside the city limits in Greene County, to follow up an investigation.

While at the residence, police saw the suspect, a wanted felon, fleeing on foot and the officers gave chase.

The suspect reportedly attempted to enter a residence and police say he appeared to raise his arm toward the officers and they heard a sound consistent with a gunshot, according to the release.

The officers retreated and Greene County Sheriff's officers arrived to assist them.

Just after midnight, the Greene County Sheriff's SWAT and K9 team executed a search warrant and arrested the suspect without further incident.

Deputies say they were unable to locate a firearm at the scene of the incident, however an investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is currently being held in the Greene County Jail on a capias Greene County arrest warrant.

As per KOLR10 policy, the suspect will not be named until charged by the Greene County Prosecutor's Office.

Springfield Police say charges additional to the original warrant may be forthcoming.
