UPDATE: Family Says Shooting Victim a Father, Student

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield police are investigating the shooting death of a man early Friday as a homicide.

It was reported about 3am in the 4000 block of S. Fort, near Kansas Expressway and  James River Freeway.     
   
Police tell KOLR10 News the man who was shot was in his early 20's.  The victim's aunt is near the house, where family members are trying to get information about the shooting and how it happened.  She tells KOLR10 News the family received a call early today that her nephew had ben killed.  She says there hasn't been much information from police yet.  But she tells KOLR10 News the man was a student at OTC and had two children. 

Neighbors say the area is normally a quiet neighborhood.  Neighbor Ryan Cash says it's a good thing no one came into his home.
Reporter" You sleeping a bit lighter tonight?"  "Yeah, sleeping a bit lighter tonight, keeping my gun by my bed.  It is what is is.  It's probably related to something, but it's right next door."

Crime scene technicians remain at the house as of late morning, collecting evidence.  The victim's name has not been released.
