SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Prosecutors have now filed charges against a man suspected of hitting another man with his car over the weekend, leaving the victim critically injured.

William Lee Smith, 22, of Ash Grove, is charged with First Degree Assault. Read the charges and related court documents, attached below this story.

The incident started as a domestic dispute Saturday in Ash Grove between a man and woman.  The woman left Ash Grove and came to Springfield, police say, where she met up with friends, including the victim, near Kansas Expressway and Atlantic.

Police say the man showed up a short time later, and ran into one of the friends -- Jeremy Strahle -- leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

In a news release Monday morning, police said "Smith left the scene of the assault driving a silver 1990's Honda Prelude with a black hood. The vehicle has a black aftermarket front end with ground effects with chrome rims. The vehicle does not have a license plate, but does have a temporary paper tag."

Police describe Smith as 5'8" tall and 175 pounds. Anyone with information regarding Smith or the vehicle is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810 or (417) 869-TIPS.
