SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  A man is clinging to life after his female friend was involved in a domestic disturbance that resulted in him being hit by a car.

Springfield Police have released additional information about the disturbances Saturday evening.

Sgt. Andrew Barksdale of the Springfield Police Department said a husband and wife had a domestic disturbance that started in Ash Grove. The wife left with her mother in a car headed for Springfield.

Police say the husband then chased down the wife and his mother-in-law to the area of Atlantic and Kansas Avenue just west of Kansas Expressway south of Kearney Street in Springfield.

At that point, the wife's father drove up in another vehicle with another person in the passenger seat. Police believe that person may be an employee of the father.

Police say at one point the husband quickly drove off after all three vehicles were stopped  in the area of High and Kansas Avenue and the next street south at Atlantic and Kansas Avenue.

There, police say the husband turned around and drove back toward the two remaining parked cars hitting the man that had arrived with the domestic disturbance victim's father.  The husband then left the scene driving what could have been a Silver Toyota Corolla.

Sgt. Steve Kaiser of the Springfield Police Department tells KOLR10 News the injured man was then transported to Cox South and police say he has life threatening injuries. Springfield police detectives have been called in to investigate and worked the scene for hours Saturday evening.

As of this writing police were still in search of the suspect and later in the evening increased the intensity of their search.

We were on scene just after the incident occurred and early on police were unsure of the relationship of the two parties involved in the domestic dispute and police referred to them as boyfriend and girlfriend. They later received information during their investigation that helped them clarify the relationship between the parties involved.

We will keep you updated as this story unfolds while police monitor the man in the hospital and search for the suspect.
