PINEVILLE, Mo. – Two women from Bentonville, Ark., are dead and four people are injured after a three-car crash on Interstate 49 in Pineville Thursday afternoon.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that 16-year-old Katelyn Boxx and 20-year-old Bethany J. Boxx were killed when the van in which they were passengers went off the highway and overturned.

The driver of the van, 51-year-old David L. Boxx of Bentonville suffered moderate injuries when it was struck by a Dodge Ram that had been rear-ended by a 2013 Chevrolet, according to the patrol’s report.

According to the traffic report, the Dodge Ram changed lanes in front of the Chevrolet while headed northbound on US 71.  The Chevrolet struck the Dodge in the rear, causing the Dodge to cross the roadway and slam head on into the Boxx's van.  The van left the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Both girls were pronounced dead at the scene.

Also injured in the crash were Gracen V. Boxx, 18, and Janet M. Boxx, both of Bentonville, and O’Rane G. Williams, 21, of Conway, Ark. All were taken to area hospitals.
The two fatalities were the 113th and 114th of 2013 in Patrol Troop D in southwest Missouri, according to the report.

The drivers of the Chevrolet, Roger D. Wilson, 47, of Muldrow, Okla., and of the Dodge, Troy C. Robins, 19, of Pineville, were not listed as injured. As by law, they were tested for alcohol use, but results of those tests are not yet available.

According to KNWA, the Bentonville School District is preparing ahead of time for students grieving at the loss of the Boxx girls to return to school on January 6.

Superintendent Mike Poore tells KNWA the district has notified all staff members and counselors of the tragedy. They will have grief counselors on hand when students return to class. He says the district is 'stunned and grieving' for the family and the community's loss.

An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
