TODAY: Governor to Help Ozarks Schools Celebrate Blue Ribbon Honors

NIXA, Mo. -- Governor Nixon will return to the Ozarks today to help Nixa High School celebrate its Blue Ribbon Award.
NIXA, Mo. -- Governor Nixon will return to the Ozarks today to help Nixa High School celebrate its Blue Ribbon Award.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Secretary of Education recognized Nixa, Bolivar, Spokane, and Willow Springs high schools as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools based on overall academic excellence.

A total of 420 schools nationwide were nominated, but the department only chose 236 public and 50 private schools. 

Gov. Nixon will be at Nixa High School's Eagle Stadium at 1:45 p.m. Friday. Then at 3:30 p.m., Spokane will host a community-wide celebration at the high school. Both events are open to the public.

A recognition ceremony for all schools set for November 18-19 in Washington, D.C.
