SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Blake Mycoskie, founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS, will speak at John Q. Hammons Arena at 7 p.m. on Nov. 11.

Mycoskie was asked to speak as the keynote speaker for Missouri State University's 2013 Public Affairs Convocation.

Each fall, Missouri State University hosts a Public Affairs Convocation lecture to help foster discussions about important topics on campus and in the community.

In addition to the lecture, a "Common Reader" book is selected each year. The purpose of the common reader is to provide a common academic experience and create a greater sense of community among students, faculty and staff, and to provide an introduction to intellectual life at Missouri State University.

This year's common reader is "Start Something that Matters", it was written by Mycoskie and tells the story of his inspiration behind TOMS and also emphasizes the power of incorporating giving in business.

The "One for One" concept is practiced at TOMS, the premise of the idea is that when an individual buys a pair of shoes, the company donates a pair to children in need. TOMS not only practices this idea in their shoe business but also for eyeglasses.

The Public Affairs Convocation lecture is free and open to the public, but tickets are required to attend. Tickets can be picked up at Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, JQH Arena, or at the Plaster Student Union ticket offices.
