T of C: Day One Report

Day one of the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions is in the books.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The 30th anniversary Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions is underway at JQH Arena.

Over the last three decades some of the best high school teams and players have played in Springfield.

KOLR 10's Megan Rice has our first night report starting with Willard against Paul VI.

The 30th Tournament of Champions underway at the Q.

And the Panthers with a fast break and you know what that means at the T of C, Josh Reaves with the two handed dunk 12-3 Panthers.

Then Paul VI with the kick out pass to Kevin Dorsey and he hits the jumper, Paul VI up 16-3.

Tigers off the inbounds, Chris Kendrix drains the three, he finished with 28 points in the game.

But it was all Panthers, Marcus Derrickson with the finish, Paul VI wins 83-49.

"It's an honor.  It's really an honor to be in and to actually play in it for the first time," said Willard senior Chris Kendrix.  "And actually see the crowd, a college crowd like I'll see next year.  It was so loud and to play, it sends chills through your body just to play in it."

In the second game,  it was White Station against Wesleyan Christian.

And the Spartans Curtis Phillips with the steal, he teaks it the other way and the get up, that makes it 4-2 Spartans. 

Then it's Trojans Michael Buckland with the three, the Spartans were up by one.

Later the Spartans Chris Chiozza with the nifty take and the finish, Spartans win this 64-50.

In the next game it was the home team Kickapoo Chiefs against Christ the King.

The Royals Andre Walker with the floater makes it 2-2 in the first.

Then back the other way, Chiefs Isaac Johnson up to Tyson Batiste Chiefs up by two.

Later the Royals findk the big man Adonis De La Rosa inside for the score.  


The Kickapoo Chiefs owned a half time lead, but lost to Christ the King by just three points,  and the late game had Montverde against Village Christian.

And Montverde had a 49-21 halftime lead.
