Superintendent Apologizes After Kindergartener Left on Bus for 7 Hours

MORRILTON, Ark. -- A kindergartner in Morrilton was left on her school bus for seven hours.
MORRILTON, Ark. -- A kindergartner in Morrilton was left on her school bus for seven hours Tuesday.

KARK reports five-year-old Breanna Enriquez says she fell asleep on the way to Morrilton Primary School. She was still sleep when her bus arrived, so she didn't realize she needed to get off.

Breanna says when she woke up, she found herself alone at the South Conway School District bus yard and that she didn't get off the bus because she was scared. She ended up staying on the bus as the driver made afternoon drop-offs.

The 5-year-old got off at her normal bus stop.

During all this time, the driver never knew Breanna had been left alone on the bus.

The superintendent says he takes responsibility for what happened and is very sorry.

"We are transporting 1,600 students daily to home and school and this is one time, unintentional mistake," say superintendent Shawn Halbrook. "We made it, we owned it, and we are going to do everything we can to make sure this doesn't happen again."

He adds he is making changes to policy for bus drivers.
