Students Begin Springfield Walkability Survey This Weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- You might be seeing some extra foot traffic in your neighborhood Saturday.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- You might be seeing some extra foot traffic in your neighborhood Saturday.

Students from Missouri State will take to the streets to assess how walk-friendly neighborhoods are - how easy and safe it is to get out of the house, meet neighbors, or walk to school in each neighborhood.

They'll record the condition of sidewalks, traffic, and land use.  The project will determine walkability factors, including derelict housing to available destinations (grocery, recreation, dining etc.).

More than 400 students will kick off the campaign Saturday at 10:00 am and it will continue throughout the fall.  You'll be able to recognize them by the bright green tee-shirts they'll be wearing.
