Stone County Clerk Not Seeking Re-election

STONE COUNTY, Mo. -- After serving three, four-year terms, Stone County Clerk Judy Berkstresser says that she will not seek re-election.
STONE COUNTY, Mo. -- After serving three, four-year terms, Stone County Clerk Judy Berkstresser says that she will not seek re-election. 

Elected as Clerk in 2003, Berkstresser served three terms as Missouri State Representative of District 141. In total, she will have served Stone County for 18 years.

"It has been an honor to serve the Stone County people both as their county clerk and state representative," said Berkstresser in a news statement.  "My decision not to seek re-election is bitter-sweet, because my service to residents of Stone County has been one of the most fulfilling works of my life.  However, I believe that it is time for me to enjoy quality time with my husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren."

Berkstresser encourages individuals who feel they have the expertise and integrity to hold public office to file for what will be an open position in January 2015.

The County Clerk serves many roles in the operation of county business and the primary role regarding local, state, and federal elections for Stone County.  The Clerk holds the position as the county budget officer, oversees payroll for all county employees, serves as the liaison for employee benefits, executes all elections for Stone County, handles the county's accounts payable responsibilities, takes the official minutes for the County Commission, ensures compliance of the Missouri Sunshine Law and is the custodian of county records.

Filing for Stone County elected positions begins February 25 and ends March 25, 2014 and requires a $50 filing fee.  The Stone County Clerk currently receives an annual salary of $54,000, plus retirement benefits and health insurance.
