ST. LOUIS -- He's become an internet sensation -- known as "Doctor Dan The Pancake Man."
Here's a look at why Dan's cakes are so hot.

Sometimes Dan Drake has to picture the pancake before he can make perfection.

"A lot of times when folks request things I'll draw myself a little helper," Drake says.

Today this Picasso of pancakes was pouring the blue note for the first time.

His creations at the Courtesy Diner in south St. Louis are gaining internet fame.

"There's an irony to the fact that it's my day job that's making me famous."

His hotcakes are selling faster than well you know the rest.

And with customers coming for custom creations, Drake, who is also an artist, musician and rapper, is wrapped up most mid-days at the diner.

Reporter:  "What was the first thing you made?"

"Uh, really it was a really big stupid smiley face," Drake admits.

Any rendition drake makes has to be in reverse, because he flips his flapjack masterpiece. And as for his forward looking future, he foresees a food truck.

"A lot of the attention I'm getting is not from St. Louis, a lot of it, because it's through the internet," says Drake. "A lot of the attention I'm getting is folks who have no way of coming to meet me or get my pancakes."

A man, a plan, a pancake, expect big things from this crafter of hotcakes.

"A classic, or my classic anyway. It's easy because it's just big ol dollops of batter."

Afterall it takes practice to be a guru of the griddle.
