SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A Springfield man faces three charges after an incident at his residence on Dec. 28, 2013.

According to online court documents, Doyle Huskey, 34, is charged with second degree arson, second degree assault on law enforcement and unlawful possession, transport, manufacture repair or sale of an illegal weapon.

The Springfield Fire Department says fire crews were called to 1616 N. Hillcrest Ave. after reports of a heavy fire in the attic of the residence.

Inside the home, crews found a propane tank that had been altered to be an explosive or incendiary device. The propane cylinder was altered to prevent the safety vent from operating if the tank became over pressurized and the outlet valve was altered to allow gas to flow when the valve was turned on.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but the attic did sustain heavy fire damage.

Investigators say Huskey altered the propane tank to retaliate against his girlfriend, who was living at the home.

Husky was transported to Mercy Hospital for unrelated injuries and was later arrested.
