SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Springfield dental office wants to swap your kids’ cavity-causing Halloween candy for gifts and chances to win prizes while supplying military service members with sweet treats from home.

Wilkinson’s Dental in Springfield will accept Halloween treats at its office on Battlefield Road from 2 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 2 in exchange for gift bags and chances for prizes donated by local businesses.

Prizes include a bicycle, flat-screen TV, dinner coupons, passes to Silver Dollar City and a set of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

The candy will be sent to Operation Gratitude, which wraps it in individual packages, along with letters of encouragement, to send to servicemen and servicewomen overseas. The buy-back program has collected more than 127 tons of candy for troops since it began nationally.

Dental assistant Robin Walsh, who is organizing the project at Wilkinson, will travel to the national headquarters of Operation Gratitude in December, at which time the one millionth package will be shipped out.

Wilkinson’s Dental is at 1902 E. Battlefield, Suite A. For more information, call 882-8222 or go online to operationgratitude.com/halloween-candy-buy-back-2012/
