SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--Ozarks Food Harvest of Springfield received almost 10,000 pounds of frozen poultry Monday thanks to the Smart Chicken 11th annual Feed the Hungry campaign.
The Southwest Missouri food bank will use the 9,400 pounds of chicken to help regional food pantries serve means to needy families over the holidays. The donation of chicken usually ranges from 7,000 pounds to 9,000 pounds each year. Senator Roy Blunt volunteered as a special guest at the event Monday. Smart Chicken’s Feed the Hungry campaign donates one pound of poultry for every ten pounds of product purchased at local grocery stores.
Ozarks Food Harvest serves more than two hundred organizations locally, and distributes 10 million meals annually to 170,000 individuals in need.
