Looking for a bargain this holiday season?   The best deals might be in the palm of your hand.
Here's the "must have" apps for the holidays.

More people than ever are shopping with a smartphone this holiday season.
CNET editor and tech expert Bridget Carey says there are plenty of new apps that can save time and money. "It's really giving you the edge."

If you're at the mall - apps like Shopular alert you about deals at nearby stores.
And you can redeem your coupon right at the register.

Want to make sure your getting the best price on a product….. apps like Shop Savvy and Red Laser offer a bar code scanner.
"I point my camera at the barcode itself, without any effort it scans it and I can see what the other price is at other retailers," Carey points out.

If you find it cheaper at another store or even online many major retailers, including Best Buy and Target, will match the price at the register.
Reporter:  "So you have peace of mind you know you're getting the best deal?"
"Yes, because you don't want to feel like you're missing out on something," says Carey.

Scan your receipt,  and the Return Guru app will keep it on your phone,  even alerting you when a return is about to expire.

And if you're tired of carrying all those store loyalty cards, there's also an app for that, too.
"So you're not holding up the line digging through your purse looking for your card."

The Keyring app lets you scan loyalty cards and keep all of them in your phone.
"And if you're like me and your prone to losing them this is handy as well"

Major retailers also offer their own apps and for good reason.  60 percent of smartphone users are expected to use
Heir devices to help them find the best deals.

It's also believed about six in 10 tablet owners will use their devices to compare prices and look up more information about a product.
