SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Springfield man has died after being shot by a Greene County Sheriff's deputy during an altercation near I-44 and Farm Rd. 45 just after 5 Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff Arnott says deputies were called about an armed man walking around a homeowner’s property on Farm Rd. 45.

The homeowner called 911 and the man ran into the woods nearby.

Three sheriff's deputies arrived and searched for the man.

When they found the man he ran toward the deputies with what they say looked like a weapon, according to Arnott.

At least one deputy fired at the man and he was then taken to the hospital, where he died from the injury.

Sheriff Arnott says he already reviewed the in-car video and that it matches up with the deputy's description of what happened.

The three deputies involved in the incident will be put on administrative leave until the investigation wraps up.
