Sheriff's Office Reports Largest Drug Seizure This Year

MILO, Mo. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office announced that it has made the largest drug seizure of the year.

According to a post on the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, over 50 grams of methamphetamine and 100 grams of marijuana, along with a scale and bags for distribution, were seized after a drug distribution investigation.

Vernon County Sheriff’s Deputies and agents from the C-Net Drug Task Force were conducting the investigation on a residence just inside Milo, Mo. on Nov. 7.

Deputies and agents pulled into the driveway just as a vehicle was getting ready to leave.

When deputies approached the car, they noticed a gun in the floorboard of the car.

The driver, identified as Thomas J. Toothaker, of Milo, is a convicted felon and was immediately placed under arrest for possession of a firearm, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

After Toothaker’s car was impounded and searched, authorities discovered the drugs the following day on Nov. 8.

The handgun in the vehicle was reported stolen out of Nevada, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Toothaker is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $20,000 cash or surety bond.

As of Nov. 12, Toothaker has only been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a warrant for distribution has been filed.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Dec. 05, at 9 a.m.
