Second Fire in Vacant Home Ruled Intentional

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Springfield fire officials said a fire this morning in an unoccupied home on the city’s northwest side was a set fire and the second in the structure in the past 30 days.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Springfield fire officials said a fire Friday morning in an unoccupied home on the city’s northwest side was a set fire and the second in the structure in the past 30 days.

Fire Marshal Bill Spence said the house at 2437 North Cottage Avenue was vacant and damage was mostly confined to one wall. Because it was reported as a house fire, there was a full response of multiple fire units, but only six firefighters remained on scene around after the severity of the fire was determined.

Utilities were not connected to the house, Spence said. It was ruled to be an “incendiary” fire, one which was intentionally set.
