MISSOURI – A Red Flag Warning will be in effect on Friday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for all of western Missouri into central Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, strong and gusty winds will develop with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mile per hour. Gusts at or above 40 miles per hour are expected from late Friday morning into the evening.

Meanwhile, the area will remain dry as high pressure cuts off any returning moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.

Even with cool temperatures, dew points will struggle to increase above zero and humidities will be in the 15-25 percent range, keeping things very dry.

According to the NWS, finer fuels such as prairie grasses will be susceptible to rapid fire growth potential.

A statement from the Office of Emergency Management says open burning should not be conducted during that time.
