SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield voters will most likely be asked to extend the police and fire pension sales tax this spring.

City council discussed renewing the three-quarter cent tax at a meeting Tuesday afternoon and added it to the agenda for a meeting on Monday, Nov. 4.

In 2009, city residents voted to enact the sales tax which comes up for renewal in April.

It brings in about $30 million every year for the pension fund.

Council members say the tax has been critical in keeping firefighters and police officers from leaving the city.

The council is set to vote on the sales tax renewal at the meeting next Monday night.
