FAIRVIEW, Mo. -- JQH officials have announced the creation of a permanent memorial to the late John Q. Hammons and his wife, Juanita K. Hammons.
JQH died last May at the age of 94.
Wednesday morning, John Q. Hammons Industries announced a 40' by 70' memorial, designed by Hood-Rich Architecture, would be built at Dice Cemetery in Fairview, Missouri.
Fairview is about an hour southwest of Springfield; Hammons preselected the location, which will be complete with eco-friendly landscaping (see renderings above).
Marty McGahan, the JQH Industries representative collaborating on the special project with JQH CEO Jacquie Dowdy, tells KOLR10 News the memorial takes into consideration Mr. Hammons’ requests as well as some of his living relatives. McGahan worked closely with Mr. Hammons on construction projects for several decades as did Hood-Rich Architecture.
The multi-stage Hammons memorial project is expected to be completed by year’s end, and will include:
Missouri red granite centerpiece nameplate and reflection bench Granite grave markers Stacked stone columns with concrete cast caps Ornamental iron fencing
Natural flagstone walking path Native, low-maintenance landscaping to complement the area’s agricultural surroundings.
